5 Easy Steps To Get Your Pool And Backyard Ready For Spring

Springtime is coming quick, and you’re probably already planning how you’ll be enjoying the warm weather. While thinking about all the time you’re going to spend on the beach or at social gatherings, don’t forget about your swimming pool!

If you wintered your pool last season, it’s probably going to need a little TLC to get up to swimming quality. During the off-season, most pool water will grow bacteria and little algae.

Preparing your pool for spring will mean you can spend less time worrying about your water conditions and more time swimming.

Step 1: Think About Some Upgrades To Your Pool Accessories

Now that it’s time to start taking care of your pool again, you may want to think about investing in new pool accessories and supplies. Maybe you’ve been using the same old pool brush with one bristle left for the last few years.

Or after several years of reliable use, your pool filter is on its way out. You can find the right solutions to maintain and care for your swimming pool at your local pool supply store.

Investing in some new, quality pool accessories will make opening up your pool easier and more fun this spring!

Step 2: Think About What You Need

Both in-ground and above-ground swimming pools need the same equipment for opening. A basic list of supplies you should consider getting is a water test kit, a chemistry kit, a pool brush, and a pool vacuum.

If you have any algae growth in your pool, you may want to pick up a shock treatment to clear it up. Having all these items will lead to a successful pool opening.

Step 3: Start Cleaning a Week Ahead Of Time

Opening your pool may seem difficult, but getting a head start can really help you out. Between the cleaning, testing, and adding chemicals, you’ll want at least a week of time to start opening your pool.

Giving yourself enough time means any chemicals you add will have enough time to circulate throughout your pool’s water. You’ll also need to set aside at least 24 hours for your pool vacuum to run if it’s an automatic one.

Step 4: Consider Getting Some Help

Opening a pool for the first time can be a daunting task. Having someone by your side while you do so can make a world of difference. You can ask family members to help clean out the filter basket or skim debris while you test the water.

You can also get in contact with a professional to make the job easier. With a little help, you can get through the pool opening process in no time.

Step 5: Your Entire Backyard Paradise

If you have a swimming pool, you likely have a living space that stretches throughout the remainder of your backyard as well. If this is the case, it’s always a good idea to give the rest of your backyard a revamp at the same time. That way, all of your tasks are out of the way and the backyard is ready to be enjoyed.

Take some time to give the other elements of your backyard a little TLC. Use a hose, power washer, rag, and soapy water to wash down the various surfaces, from your gazebo and deck/patio area, to backyard furniture, BBQ, and fire pit.
